Bluetooth Headsets

Bluetooth was first developed by Ericsson in 1999, it provides a way for different devices to communicate with each other by sending data via a secure, low cost, short range radio frequency. Using this technology, cell phones can talk to headsets, PCs can talk to printers or keyboards, and handhelds can talk to each other without any wires. The International Data Corporation estimates that by the end of 2007 there would be approximately 100 million Bluetooth devices across the world. Bluetooth has witnessed a 60 percent annual growth from the year 2003 onwards.

Bluetooth headsets allows hands-free phone use without connecting a single wire. Bluetooth headsets offer a suitable and easy to use wireless connection between a headset and an array of products like wireless phones, computers, cameras, GPS devices, and handheld devices. Bluetooth headsets vary a great deal in price. Some headsets can be found for $30 or less, while others cost $200 and more. A Bluetooth headset can never be as small or light as small wired headsets, because it needs to include a battery and extra electronic circuitry. All Bluetooth headsets manufactured till date have concentrated on offering as small as possible single piece designs. The idea of having a headband on Bluetooth headsets has never been implemented.

It is also possible to use Bluetooth headsets with devices which do not support the Bluetooth technology. To connect such devices you would need a Bluetooth adapter that plugs into some port of the non-Bluetooth device. The adapter links with your headset as if it were a Bluetooth device, and then links with your device as if it were a regular headset. Some of the latest Bluetooth headsets models include these adapters.

All Bluetooth Class 2 devices are designed to have a range of 10 meters (approximately 33 feet). However, this range can vary depending upon the direct open view between the headset and the device. Its always advisable to calibrate the range of your device with the Bluetooth headset so that you are aware of the maximum possible distance you can be from the device and still have a reliable connection.

Till date Bluetooth headsets are manufactured in two main styles. One style is where the headset is held in place by a loop around the ear. These types are generally more comfortable but less secure. The other type is held in place by being physically blocked into your ear. These are less comfortable but at sometimes are more secure.

Bluetooth headsets have a greater advantage than regular wired headsets. Some of them are:

Bluetooth headsets can offer a great deal of ease and flexibility, even though sometimes are expensive. A good Bluetooth headset is one which you can easily handle by understanding it, setting it up and using it. It makes your life easier. A bad Bluetooth headset is the opposite.
